Assam: Indian Students' Organisation Calls for Compensation to Students

Additionally, ISO asked that the government make sure that qualified individuals are hired for positions with such significant responsibilities.

GUWAHATI: The Board of Secondary Education, Assam's decision to cancel the HSLC General Science (C3) test was vehemently denounced by the Indian Students' Organization (ISO), Assam Chapter (SEBA).

"We believe this is an irresponsible decision taken by the board in the eleventh hour and has caused tremendous confusion and sorrow to the children and their families," said the organization's president, Durlav Talukdar, in a statement.

He continued, "We demand that the Assam Board of Secondary Education make sure that the children are never again placed in such a circumstance. We kindly request that the board launch an appropriate investigation into the issue right away and take the necessary steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”

The group also urged that SEBA take the required actions to make up for the students' "mental torment" and the time and effort they had invested in studying for the exam.

It continued, "The Indian Students' Organization sends its entire support to the students and their families during this terrible time in solidarity with the students and their families." Talukdar continued, "It is evident that the personnel participating were incapable, even though it is acknowledged that it is impossible to perform such an exam at such a vast scale."

Additionally, ISO asked that the government make sure that qualified individuals are hired for positions with such significant responsibilities.

Several organisations took to protesting against the education department of the state of Assam due to the reported leaking of the question papers and the subsequent cancelling of the General Science paper for the High School Leaving Certificate Examinations.

There were multiple reports of the paper being shared over social media and messaging platforms on Sunday, a day ahead of the exam scheduled to take place on March 13. Following this development, the education minister of the state ordered the postponement of the subject to a later date. Protests against this incident started in the early morning of Monday across the state of Assam.

The All Assam Students Union led the protests at multiple locations. Effigies of the education minister Ranoj Pegu and the Board of Secondary Education of Assam were burnt in several parts of the state along with sloganeering.

The opposition Indian National Congress led the protests in the Assam legislative assembly. The morning session of Monday during the ongoing budget session had to be adjourned because of the protests.
